Last OrderCeramic works by Tiger Wong and Hikki Lau
Burial Objects ———time and value
Ceramic was a medium widely employed in making burial objects in Chinese culture, Tang tri-colour horses, Eastern Han pottery houses and Qin terracotta warrior were typical examples among all. Nowadays, ceramic burial objects are replaced by paper offering. Changes in the medium used and the subject matter in burial objects reflect a difference in value judgment towards the spiritual and the material.
Tiger Wong and Hikki Lau both show their interest in studying burial objects through the eyes of a potter. In response to the evolution of such ritual culture, their ceramic works show an intensive concern of craftsmanship as well as research on the subject matter. Tiger Wong’s sculpture hybridizes reference from traditional tomb animals and vessels with unique modern world elements, while Hikki Lau spends more than a hundred hours carving on bone dry clay balls, challenging the contemporary concept of time.
This is the first two-person exhibition by the young potters who are in their early twenties.
All the objects in the exhibition are hand-built stoneware fired to 1260c.
